Arnold Ap

A musician, anthropologist and activist, Ap was also the curator at
Cenderawasih University. He also hosted a weekly radio program
promoting the Papuan culture. He was arrested in November 1983
as a suspected sympathiser of the Free West Papua Movement (OPM).
April 1984 he was shot in the back, allegedly escaping custody,
though many believe he was executed.
Ap’s music continues to be an integral part of the West Papuan resistance.
